Tattoo. In the world of myths and legends.

The Internet is full of an endless number of medieval stereotypes and silly articles related to tattooing. It
can often be quite difficult to sort out and structure all this nonsense. The reason for the appearance of
such myths is very clear. Initially a tattoo was considered to be for marginals and one could only dream
of serious medical or scientific research in this area. But now it is already a serious business and all kinds
of companies and manufacturers of cosmetics have reached out for money, which have begun to invest
their money in this fashion industry.

MYTH 1. A temporary tattoo.

It is like an elusive story about vampires – “everyone has heard about them but no one has seen them”. I regret to inform you that they do not exist. There are only clumsy masters who do not color in the skin
well. And after two weeks of healing your tattoo will look half-made and with bald spots. With such an
interesting story you need to run to this clumsy master and demand a free correction of this creation.

MYTH 2. You will get HIV!
It is more likely hepatitis, it will be more reliable, and HIV is a very capricious thing. It does not live on
surfaces; it is not transmitted through hugs. And if you get a tattoo in a sterile studio and not in Vasya’s
kitchen then there’s nothing to worry about. The master opens all disposable equipment – needles, caps
and holders with you. Pay attention to this. The tattoo artist’s only constant companion in his work is a
tattoo machine and it has no contact with blood. Today studios are equipped no worse than small
operating rooms with autoclave machines, ultrasonics and regular room quartz treatment. The safety
requirements of studios are the same as in any medical institutions and, as my experience shows, in
practice they even turn out to be much higher than in some of our clinics.

MYTH 3. Tattoos turn blue over time!
You came for a tattoo in the 21st century, not in the 60s, and now this problem is no longer relevant.
Therefore, such metamorphoses do not occur in modern pigments!

MYTH 4. You are not allowed to donate blood and undergo an MRI scan!
After six months or a year, as soon as your body comes to its senses after such an invasive procedure
and the lymphatic system stops driving paint particles around the body you can safely share your blood
cells with those in need. And the MRI machine doesn’t care at all!

MYTH 5. Color tattoos are more painful to do than black and white ones. And white is the most
painful color.

Painful sensations depend not on the color of the pigment but on the thickness of the needles and the
place of application. And the white color is applied at the very end of the session, on the broken skin,
and that’s why the sensations from it are the brightest.

MYTH 6. I’ll gain weight and my tattoo will spread.
If you plan to gain 100 kilograms then of course it will spread. Another thing is that statistically people
who turn their body into a canvas, invest money and time in it, are proud of their successes and try to
keep fit throughout their lives. I would like to put this motivational trick in the pros section “for a
tattoo”! If during the year your weight fluctuates back and forth then I declare with all responsibility
that it will be no matter for the tattoo.

MYTH 7. Tattoo is forever. It cannot be removed!
The laser industry is inexorably rushing forward today! Now black tattoos can be removed to almost
zero. Of course, it takes a lot of time and money but the result is impressive. It’s a little more difficult
with colored tattoos but it’s not hopeless either. In any case, the “unloved” tattoo can be slightly
removed by laser and then cover with a new one!

MYTH 8. Tattoos hurt!
Here everyone to his trade, someone is even pleased. It all depends on the huge number of inputs – the
place of application, the pain barrier and the thickness of the bundles. Now there is a huge number of
skin anesthetics. Some are applied before the session, some in the process of work. But before using
such a drug be sure to familiarize yourself with the composition and make sure that you are not allergic
to the components, many of them include lidocaine.

MYTH 9. Tattoos boost the immune system!
The more I live the more I wonder what kind of interesting nonsense falls out on the head of a curious
reader. If such statements were true then in polyclinics instead of vaccinations nurses would make
domes for us and the profession of an immunologist would have sunk into oblivion. A tattoo is actually
the introduction of a multicolored chemical cocktail into the layers of the dermis which should stay
there for a very long time, not spread anywhere and survive your mortal body for another 7 years. This
is not a magical gathering from the peaks of the Alpine mountains, you do not need to attribute healing
properties to it. There were only a couple of studies with a very small sample of participants in which
they found a correlation between the level of immunity and the number of tattoos on a person. The
only thing that a long and difficult tattoo session can contribute to is a subsequent cold and a light body
temperature rise for a day or two. Since our body is designed in such a way that it very much dislikes
when a lot of foreign substances are injected into it at a time.

There are many more similar myths, I wrote about the most reasonable ones. It is worth remembering
that tattoo culture is no longer a marginal story but a serious commercial industry. Big studios and
masters invest a lot of money in their equipment, work only on certified pigments and cosmetics. Since
this is not only a matter of reputation but also of safety.
